In Memoriam: Richard Lindquist

Chris Beytes

Dr. Richard Lindquist, the popular and prolific professor of entomology at The Ohio State University, passed away in September.

Born in 1942 in Minnesota, he did his undergraduate studies at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota, and received his master’s and Ph.D. in Entomology from Kansas State University. It was there he met and married Linda, who became his wife for 55 years.

As mentioned, Richard, or “Link” as he was called by close friends, was professor of entomology at The Ohio State University and he did research at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio.

Professionally, Richard pioneered efficient, science-based methods of pesticide application and use of beneficial insects in commercial horticulture. His expertise took him around the world. He retired from Ohio State in 2001 and worked as an expert consultant in the horticulture industry until 2011. GT
