In Memoriam: Bill Stoffregen

Chris Beytes
Clifton William “Bill” Stoffregen, Jr., founder of Homewood Nursery in Raleigh, North Carolina, died at his Raleigh home on April 15. He was 79. Bill founded Homewood in 1967. At the time, it was primarily a wholesale operation; today, Homewood is a well-respected retail garden business run by Bill’s son Joe.

Bill was a forester for Wake County, North Carolina, and plant growing was a backyard hobby that got out of hand. Over the years, the business transitioned into a retail destination, especially known for its poinsettias.

Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy; his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Myra Leigh; and three grandchildren. GT
