Vitro Plus started with the sowing of ferns into Preforma plugs a year ago—the smallest in our range of 48-96-126 hole vitro trays. This new way of producing will replace the traditional production into the community trays, which happens in a completely sterile environment into Vitro Trays in combination with air-permeable foil. After 18 to 20 weeks, the ferns are fully grown and ready for shipment. Every plug has one tiny fern (126 per tray) and can be shipped worldwide (except to Australia and New Zealand). The EnduraScape landscape verbena beats them all for lasting color. The plants take the heat (100F+/38C+) and stay in flower longer. EnduraScape is also hardy to the low teens for Southern markets and it’s the first to rebloom in spring. The series is also powdery mildew tolerant. The EnduraScape series includes several key landscape colors for 2015: Purple, White Blush, Red, Lavender, Hot Pink (pictured), Blue and Dark Purple. Monarda Sugar Buzz Cherry Pops is the first in a brand new series from the Walters Gardens, Inc. hybridizing program. Super-vibrant cherry red, 2- to 2.5-in. blossoms are produced on strong, knee-high stems in mid-summer. Dark green, disease-resistant foliage forms an upright clump that fills out containers nicely but won’t run all over the garden. Additional colors in the series including hot pink, magenta, and lavender lilac are similar in size, bloom time and vigor.
