Fire Destroys 30% of Rosa Flora
Chris Beytes
One of North America’s largest cut flower operations went up in flames in early March.
Rosa Flora Ltd, of Dunnville, Ontario, suffered the loss of 15 of its 40 acres of production in a fire that broke out about 1:00 a.m., according to news reports. Three firefighters were hospitalized. Along with greenhouses, the damaged areas include sales and administrative offices, a cooler and a dozen delivery trucks. Cause of the fire has been declared undetermined by the Ontario Fire Marshall.
Rosa Flora specializes in gerbera, but also produces snapdragons, lisianthus, alstroemeria and more. Reports indicate that snaps and lisianthus were the only crops impacted by the blaze, so thankfully, they’re still in business.
