In Memoriam: Gene Young

Gene Young, founder of Young’s Plant Farm of Auburn, Alabama, passed away Thursday, October 3. Gene founded the company in 1961 and was instrumental in the early development of the industry. According to a press release from his family, Gene had an incredible passion for quality in every aspect of his life. Whether it was the plants, the greenhouses or the work performed by each individual employee, quality was imperative. His greatest passion, however, was for his family and his ambition to provide them with a legacy through Young’s Plant Farm.

Born November 24, 1937, Gene is survived by his wife Avis and his four sons, Rob, Greg, Burt and Cale. He’s also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
