HortiTech: The New Dutch Greenhouse Show

Chris Beytes
I’ve been wondering what, if anything, would replace the now-defunct Horti Fair in Amsterdam. Now we’ve got the answer: HortiTech Amsterdam, “the international trade fair for horticulture technology,” as organizers are billing it. The biennial event will take place June 10-12 at Amsterdam’s RAI exhibition center. Conveniently, that times with the annual Flower Trials (to be held June 11-14 next year).

The online information (www.hortitech-amsterdam.com) admits that the HortiTech Amsterdam is a working title, and the final name of the event will be settled on by October 1. But for now, we know that the trade fair will focus on the range of technology we used to see at Horti Fair (and NTV before that): greenhouse construction, greenhouse equipment and climate, internal logistics, crop protection, fertilizers, peat and substrates, supplies and packaging, propagation and breeding, and knowledge and services.

The inaugural event will be held in three of the RAI’s 11 halls: halls 9, 10, 11. They cover 146,000 sq. ft.—less than half the space formerly allocated to equipment and technology.

Like Horti Fair of old, HortiTech Amsterdam promises themed pavilions highlighting specific new technologies: water use and management, energy production and use, and biologically based applications for horticulture. Each pavilion will feature exhibitors, workshops and seminars.
