Bioline—Syngenta
This spring, Syngenta introduced Bioline, which offers a broad portfolio of biological control agents (BCAs) that can be used with traditional plant protection products for a practical approach to integrated crop management.
Made from a collection of beneficial insects, mites and nematodes, Bioline BCAs control thrips, aphids, whiteflies, fungus gnats and mites. Bioline also includes two pheromones that can be used as important monitoring tools. Innovative packaging—like blister packs and sachets—complete the Bioline portfolio and ensure BCAs are properly stored and released in the most effective way.

Subtilex NG—Bec
ker Underwood, now part of BASF
Subtilex NG bio-fungicide provides broad-spectrum antifungal protection against soil-borne pathogens like
Rhizoctonia solani,
Pythium spp. and
Fusarium spp. to help prevent damping-off and other root diseases. Made with the bacteria
Bacillus subtilis, Subtilex NG rapidly colonizes the plant root surface and fights off pathogens, while also producing a metabolite that destroys the pathogen’s cell wall. The result is better established, more vigorous root and shoot systems for stronger, healthier plants.
Pictured: All of these pepper plants are infected with Fusarium spp. On the left, there was no protective treatment, the middle was treated with Subtilex NG at planting, and the right was treated with the industry standard of Trichoderma harzianum strain at planting.
PyGanic—MGK/Hort Americas
PyGanic EC 1.4 and PyGanic EC 5.0 are OMRI-listed organically compliant insecticides that offer immediate control of a wide variety of pests. Manufactured by MGK and available from Hort Americas, both products are compliant with USDA National Organic Program requirements. PyGanic is a broad-spectrum, contact insecticide with pyrethrins as its active ingredient. It delivers quick knockdown and control of crop-damaging insects. There are no restrictions on the number of applications that can be made per year and it can be applied on all growing crops. PyGanic 1.4 is recommended for smaller, custom applications and for growers with lower usage frequency. PyGanic 5.0 is ideal for larger-scale applications and for higher-volume and higher-frequency users. Both products are available in quart- and gallon-size containers.
Met52 EC—Novozymes
Met52 EC bioinsecticide is a beneficial fungus that is found in soils worldwide and is used to control thrips, mites, whiteflies and vine weevils in greenhouse vegetable starts, outdoor leafy/fruiting vegetables and onion production. Met52 EC is compatible with many beneficial insects and other insecticides and it can be applied as a foliar or drench.
Cuproxat—Nufarm
Cuproxat fungicide is a formulation of copper hydroxide from Nufarm that’s engineered with proprietary chemistry to deliver uniform, sub-micron particles—80% of the particles are less than 1 micron. This smaller particle size delivers a number of benefits to growers, including better plant coverage for better protection against fungal and bacterial diseases, less active ingredient for reduced environmental load, and easy mixing and easy application. The premium formulation readily mixes in water and stays suspended longer than any other liquid formulation. And Cuproxat is OMRI-listed for use on vegetables and herbs. (not pictured)
Shuttle O—OHP
OHP has expanded the label of its Shuttle O miticide to include greenhouse vegetables, which allows it to be used on greenhouse-grown fruiting vegetables including eggplants, ground cherries, pepinos, peppers, tomatillos and tomatoes.
Shuttle O is effective on a wide range of mite species—including two-spotted spider mites, spruce spider mites, citrus red mites, European red mites, Pacific spider mites and several others. It offers Reduced Risk classification, activity on all life stages, long residual control, a unique mode of action and is soft on beneficial insects.
Shuttle O is not yet registered for the new use pattern in California and New York.
AzaGuard—BioSafe
BioSafe Systems’ AzaGuard is an organic insecticide effective on more than 300 insect species by acting as an insect growth regulator, anti-feedant, insect repellant and ovi-position deterrent. AzaGuard’s combination of Azadirachtin, food grade ingredients and 100-plus biologically active liminoids provides a multiple mode of action formulation that’s labeled for all greenhouse crops—including fruits, vegetables and herbs. Tank mix AzaGuard with your commonly used chemicals for full crop protection. AzaGuard is also OMRI-listed for organic production.
