OFA Elects New Officials
At its July 12 annual business meeting, OFA announced the election of the OFA president and vice president, as well as five new members and three appointments to the OFA board of directors. The elected officials are:
Bobby Barnitz, Bob’s Market & Greenhouses Inc., Mason, West Virginia, re-elected OFA president;  Danny Takao, Takao Nursery, Fresno, California, re-elected vice president; Mark Foertmeyer, Foertmeyer & Sons Greenhouse, Delaware, Ohio; elected to Ohio Grower director position; Jerry Dill, Dill’s Greenhouse, Groveport, Ohio, elected to the Ohio Garden Center director position; Dan Johnston, Tri-State Foliage, Cincinnati, Ohio, elected to the Interior Plantscape At-Large director position; and David Kuack, GMPro Magazine/Branch-Smith Publishing, Fort Worth, Texas, elected to the Allied Trade director position.

In other appointments, Mike McCabe of McCabe’s Greenhouse & Floral, Lawrenceburg, Indiana, was appointed as Board Liaison to the executive committee; Jim Broderick of Plantland Garden Center, Columbus, Ohio, was re-appointed by the board of directors as OFA treasurer; and John R. Holmes, CAE, was re-appointed as the OFA executive director.

ANLA
The American Nursery and Landscape Association elected new leaders to its board during its annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio. Greg Schaan, President and CEO of Imperial Nurseries, Granby, Connecticut, assumed the presidency. He had previously served as ANLA’s president-elect. Greg brings 12 years of experience at Imperial Nurseries and other non-industry, corporate experience, along with four years’ service as an ANLA board member.

Tom Courtright, Orchard Nursery & Florist, Lafayette, California, assumed the title of president-elect of the board of directors. John Bryant, Millican Nurseries, Chichester, New Hampshire, and Stan Brown, Alameda Wholesale Nursery, Englewood, Colorado, were newly seated on the board.

Matt Sawyer, Bennett’s Creek Wholesale Nursery, Suffolk, Virginia, will serve on the Landscape Distribution Division Board. Steve Hutton, The Conard-Pyle Co., West Grove, Pennsylvania, and Peter Scarff, Scarff’s Nursery, New Carlisle, Ohio, join the Grower Division Board. Scott Price, Snow’s Garden Center, Charlottesville, Virginia, and Kyle Natorp, Natorp’s, Mason, Ohio, will serve on the Landscape Division Board.

ANLA has also recently inducted Carl Meyer, president of Horticultural Services, Inc., St. George, Kansas, into its Hall of Fame. Meyer has served as president of ANLA and its Landscape Division. The award is the highest honor the green industry can bestow upon one of its members.  

San Diego County Flower & Plant Association
The San Diego County Flower & Plant Association has awarded its 2008 Person of the Year award to Jim and Kathye Rietkerk of Kallisto Greenhouses, Fontana, California, for their accomplishments in the horticulture industry.

In addition, the organization in June installed a new board of directors. Officers include president, Susan MacFarland of Valley View Nursery, San Marcos; first vice president, Gregg Opgenorth, The Plug Connection, Vista; second vice president, Lisa Duff, Fox Point Farms, Encinitas; treasurer, Gregg Warren, American AgCredit, Escondido; and secretary, Ryan Doughty, Weidners’ Gardens, Encinitas.
